How to Change Fonts in an Android Theme

by Travis Meyer, Demand Media

h most functions on the Android operating system, changing the interface's fonts is dealt with through a third-party application and not through Android's native settings preferences. The only application available on the Android market for customizing fonts in the OS is an app called TypeFresh. With TypeFresh and a directory of TFF font filetypes on your computer, customize all of the font families on your Android device.

Step 1

Download TypeFresh onto your Android. Activate your Android phone and open the Android Marketplace. Tap the "Search" text-field and enter "TypeFresh." Choose the TypeFresh app from the menu and click "Install."

Step 2

Load the font you would like to use for your Android theme onto the Android phone. Plug your Android phone into your computer with its USB cable. Open a new Explorer navigating window and find the TFF file you want to load to your Android phone. Right-click the file and select "Copy." Click the "H:/" drive, representing your Android's memory card, in the left sidebar. Open the "Fonts" folder in your Android's directory, right-click the window and select "Paste."

Step 3

Activate the font on your Android phone. Turn your Android phone on and access the newly downloaded TypeFresh app from the main menu. Tap the family of fonts to replace from the menu, and tap the new font from the list. Tap the "Apply Fonts" button at the bottom of the display to finalize the custom font setting. Restart your phone. When it reactivates, your new font appears.
