How to Delete the URL Bar From Internet Explorer

by Amanda C. Kooser, Demand Media

Internet Explorer is a widely used web browser from Microsoft. As with many web browsers, it can be customized to meet the needs and wants of users. One option is to adjust the toolbars that appear at the top of the program. This is handy for users with small computer screens where display space is at a premium. The URL bar can be removed and replaced as needed in Internet Explorer 7 and earlier.

Step 1

Open Internet Explorer by double-clicking on the icon shortcut on your desktop. If there is no icon shortcut, open the "Start" menu, go to "All Programs" and then click on "Internet Explorer."

Step 2

Click on the "View" menu at the top of the program in between the "Edit" and "Favorites" menus.

Step 3

Hover the mouse over "Toolbars" in the drop-down menu and place the mouse over "Address Bar" until it is highlighted. Click on "Address Bar" to uncheck it. The URL bar is now deleted.

Tips

  • To reinstate the URL bar, follow the same instructions and click on "Address Bar" to recheck it.
  • Other toolbars can be deleted from the same menu to save even more display space.

Warnings

  • The address bar can't be removed in Internet Explorer 8 and above.
