Find a computer's processor speed easily in Windows.

There are many ways to determine processor speed in Windows operating systems, some more complicated than others. The easiest way to see the speed of your processor is through a few clicks on the desktop or from the start menu and a brief scan of system information.

Items you will need

  • Computer mouse
  • Windows operating system (XP/Vista/7)

Step 1

Right-click on the "My Computer" icon (in Windows XP/Vista) or the "Computer" icon (in Windows 7) on the desktop of your computer. Alternately, you can access the computer from the start menu if there is no icon on the desktop.

Step 2

Left-click on "Properties" in the menu that pops up (called a "Context Menu").

Step 3

Read the line labeled "Processor:" in Windows 7/Vista. In Windows XP, the processor speed will be listed on the "General" tab towards the bottom of the window. The speed of your processor follows the @ symbol. The information preceding the @ symbol is the processor type and model number.

Tips

  • Multiple core processors will say "Duo" or "Quad" in the information preceding the @ symbol.

Warnings

  • Avoid clicking on any check boxes or altering any settings unless you fully understand their purpose.
