The Microsoft Windows Vista computer operating system (and other recent Microsoft operating systems, such as Windows 7 and XP) comes with a pre-installed eMail client program. An eMail client (unlike a web-based eMail program) collects the mail directly from your eMail server and delivers it to a convenient program right on your computer. The Windows Vista eMail program is called "Windows Mail." Viewing your eMail directories and folders in Windows Mail is simple.

Step 1

Open the Windows Mail eMail program. To do this, open the Start menu, mouse over "All Programs" and click on "Windows Mail." Windows Mail will load your eMail directories and saved eMails.

Step 2

Look at the navigation pane on the left side of your screen. Here you will see two items in the list, "Local Folders" (and its contents if set to the "Display directories" mode) and "Microsoft Communities."

Step 3

Click on the right-pointing arrow to the left of "Local Folders." All of your eMail directories will now be displayed onscreen and you can click on each individual directory to view, modify or reply to its contents.
