How to Launch a Discussion Forum
by Kurt Schanaman, Demand Media
Internet discussion forums have become a mainstay on the World Wide Web. Also known as an online bulletin board, a forum permits a group of people with a common interest or goal, to rapidly share information with one another anywhere an Internet connection may be used.
Items you will need
- Website hosting account
- PhpBB forum software
Step 1
Locate a website hosting company that offers phpBB forum software as a pre-installed option which also matches your budget needs. Sign up.
Step 2
Follow your host's instructions for purchasing and adding a domain name to your account. Since domain names are easier to remember for most users, you should consider this option.
Step 3
Go into your hosting account configuration area and locate the phpBB option in the included software packages list. Most hosts have it available for you, but it isn't activated automatically. Place a check-mark next to the phpBB forum and then follow the directions to configure the forum.
Step 4
Appoint yourself and anyone else you may desire as forum administrators and moderators, and then begin announcing your forum's availability to others.
Tips
- Most full-service web hosting firms now provide full instructions and options for purchasing and assigning a domain name to your hosting account.
