How to Get MSN Live Messenger With a Dial-up Connection

Whether you are living in a rural area incompatible with high speed Internet, or you are on a budgeted Internet plan, sometimes using dial-up Internet is your only choice. Dial-up Internet uses your home telephone land line to connect to the Internet, which can tie up your phone line and load applications such as Internet browsers and applets very slowly. One of the easiest chat programs to use on a dial-up connection is MSN Live Messenger. Getting connected with MSN Live Messenger whilst using a dial-up is a simple process that will have you socializing online within minutes.

Step 1

Connect to the Internet via your provider's dialer application.

Step 2

Open your Internet browser.

Step 3

Type "http://download.live.com/" into your Internet browser's address bar and hit the "Enter" key on your keyboard. The MSN Essentials page will load, containing links to various MSN downloads and information.

Step 4

Click the link that says "messenger" located in the "IM & Email" category. The page will load, containing information and download links for MSN Live Messenger.

Step 5

Click the download button located on the right-hand side of the Internet browser once the MSN Live Messenger page has finished loading. This can take a few minutes if you are browsing with a dial-up Internet connection.

Step 6

Click "run" once the download is complete to install the messenger. Follow the prompts given by the MSN Live Messenger install manager to get the program properly running on your machine.
