How to Start Windows XP in MS

Starting Windows XP in MS-DOS mode can be necessary to troubleshoot certain system errors and operating system problems. This can be done by creating a DOS startup disk using the disk management features in the Windows XP operating system. The entire operation can be done in around 10 minutes or less.

Items you will need

  • Blank floppy

Step 1

Insert a blank floppy into the computer.

Step 2

Click "My Computer" and right-click the floppy drive.

Step 3

Select "Format," check "Create a DOS Startup Disk" and press "OK."

Step 4

Insert the DOS startup disk into the computer and restart it.

Step 5

Press any key when prompted to boot into DOS.
