Use FTP to send your pages to the World Wide Web.

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) enables you to transfer files from one computer or server to another across a network or the Internet. When you change your Web pages on your local computer, you need to FTP them to the Web server so the changes can be viewed on the Internet. To use FTP to update your Web pages, you will need the connection credentials provided by your Internet Service Provider.

Items you will need

  • FTP client

Step 1

Open your FTP client. You can use a free FTP client or one that exists within a full application such as Dreamweaver.

Step 2

Connect to your site by entering your login and connection information in the appropriate fields. Your FTP client shows you your local computer and your remote Web server.

Step 3

Navigate to the modified pages on your local computer. Use the options provided in the FTP application to upload the files to your Web server.

Step 4

Navigate to your website in an Internet browser to test your pages.
