How to Use Google Font
by Michael Butler, Demand MediaGoogle operates an open-source collection of fonts that webmasters can use for free to personalize their sites. As of February 2011, the program is still in beta testing mode, but it is open to everyone. Using Google fonts does not require any programming knowledge, but it does require some knowledge of where the information is located on a Web page.
Step 1
Open your Web browser and go to the Google Font Directory. Search for the font you want to use and click on it.
Step 2
Click the "Use this font" tab.
Step 3
Highlight, then copy the HTML code in the first code field.
Step 4
Open a new tab in your browser. Navigate to where the HTML for your website is located. Depending upon how your site is organized, this could be in an administrative section of the site or you might have to access it through your hosting provider's control panel. Open the document containing font information. Normally, this is a "header.php" file. However, your site might have something else. Paste the HTML code into the document.
Step 5
Click on the browser tab for the Google Fonts Directory. Highlight and copy the second box with code. Go back to the tab with your website and find the .css document for the page or pages you want to use the font on. Again, where this file is and what it is called will depend on your site's organization. Once you locate the proper .css document, paste the code into it. You are now ready to use the Google font on your page.
